Simplewood was formed in the summer of 2003 by a group of people with a love for skateboarding and the uk skate scene. The original creators included Alex Larelli, Hoyin Lam, Jake Johnson-White and Simon Jones. Although originally a joke, the website was a good way for our skateboarding scene to keep up on what was going on, where people were skating from day to day, share photos etc.

Since then the site has grown up some, this being the 3rd or 4th generation. The site now has almost 500 photographs, 2500 blogs and literally thousands of forum posts. We've also made a series of minivideos, which started as a way of disposing of scrap footage (starting with minivideo01), but ended up with us creating them on a regular basis (view them all here). The videos are mainly filmed around our local area however there are few that aren't, including the Barcelona videos (Barca, Barca:05 & Barca:05 Extras). Unforunately we've reached quite a slump in recent times due to the lack of any filming equipment. However we plan to get back on the case soon, so hopefully Simplewood will be back to its old ways with minivideos flying from all orificies.

In October 2004 we also sold a test batch of 50 decks, designed by Joe White and Simon Jones. They were priced at £35, and we sold them all locally with good success. We plan on selling further series' of decks in the future, so keep your eyes peeled or sign up to the newsletter on the home page and we'll let you know when that all happens.

Since then the team has changed several times, but it's been the same community that has held Simplewood together, with regular bloggers, gallery submissions and features from all over the UK. Simplewood isn't focused on the team side of things, it's a community, so if you think you have something to contribute or would just like to chat with some like-minded individuals then sign up today, it's all free!
