FILMING A VIDEO PART (1)
SIMPLEWOOD FEATURE : SKATEBOARDING
The Skating

Lets get this first point out of the way, filming for a skate video is HARD!!!!! Don't start thinking, oh yeah, I'll have a part in that, if you do it half-heartedly you will either end up with A) A section which is an embarresment to skateboarding, or B) A half-section

You have to work, like a bitch.

You have to do planning, you have to plan what tricks you're gonna do, gotta make sure you don't do the same trick too many times, gotta make sure no one else is gonna do the same trick as you, gotta have a variety of spots, gotta have a variety of skating, gotta go ta' work, BITCH.

One thing I can't stress enough, is that if you don't skate reasonably fast, your section will look fairly shite. No-one likes watching some dude skate along at 1mph doing sketchy kickflips, even if you don't like skating fast, at least try and push it up slightly, so that you get some flow in you know??

Know how you want your part to look, and know how to film it that way (more about this in section 2)

Make sure your filmer knows what he's doing, anyone can point a camera at someone while they do a trick, but to make it look professional and not like some little 9 year olds day in the park is harder than it looks, ask around and find someone with the patience and skill to get it right (don't ask Simon, he's strictly Simplewood, all you lil' hobo's bog off and get your own)

Don't be afraid to do it again, if you're filming a line and it's all sketchy, do it again, otherwise you'll never be happy with end result

Plan ahead, think of places to go and things to do, if there's a gap you wanna hit, plan what you wanna do a few days in advance, that way you can bring everything you need (lights, duck tape [hehehe], camera's, homies)

Try and work closely with whoever is editing your part together, he or she will be doing everything so stick with them if you want it done right (at some point I'm gonna get my letter to Simon posted up on here)

Trick lists, there are two different kinds, tricks done, and tricks to do. A tricks to do list makes it alot easier for you to make sure you don't double up on a certain trick or anything like that. A tricks done list makes it easier to keep track of how much work there is left to do.

Fair points... and filming is a f**king head ache. I mean, lines can take ageeesss... and hammers result in the hammer blues if you don't land it pretty quickly. The best advise is not to get too carried away with it all... if ain't gonna happen, it ain't gonna happen. There's always tomorrow.
